While on the road trip, general manager Dave Dombrowski insisted that it was too early to determine whether surgery would be necessary for the Philadelphia Phillies. Aside from the type of fracture Harper suffered and where the injury occurred on his thumb, he was unsure of the extent of the damage.
Sunday, Dombrowski announced that he would be placed on the injured list. "At first, I was alarmed that he had been struck in the face. After seeing him walk off the field, I was immediately concerned. He is a tough guy."
