Baseball's Coral Gables Regional in Miami is set for a Saturday night game despite the storm

Canisius College, Ole Miss, and Arizona should have known by Saturday morning who would advance from the Coral Gables Regional of the NCAA Division I College Baseball Tournament, hosted by the Miami Hurricanes. In spite of the ferocious rain and wind, the NCAA wants those games to take place on Saturday night. The Coral Gables Regional at Alex Rodriguez Park and Mark Light Field has been "pushed back" by the NCAA on Saturday morning. There will be a rescheduled game at 5 p.m. on Saturday (ESPN+) between No. 6 national seed Miami (39-18) and No. 4 regional seed Canisius (29-23) in the regional. Originally slated for a noon start on Friday, the game was postponed three times, the last time at 10 a.m. on Friday and the final time at noon on Saturday. Arizona, the No. 2 regional seed (37-23) will play Ole Miss, the No. 3 regional seed (32-22), 55 minutes after Miami's first game ends on Saturday night (ESPN+).

National Weather Service prediction

Keep in mind that NCAA tournament games cannot begin after 11 p.m., but if they begin earlier, they can be played in their entirety. This weekend's games at Mark Light will begin at 3:30 p.m. local time and the stands will not be cleared in-between contests. If the rain persists, NCAA officials will do their best to complete all games by Tuesday at the earliest, as the tournament's second round begins on Friday. A tropical storm with wind gusts of more than 30 miles per hour is expected today in Miami, according to the National Weather Service. The National Weather Service predicts that rain will continue through the night, with a "slight chance of thunderstorms" and "rain likely after midnight." Several inches of rain have already fallen in parts of South Florida as a result of the strom.
