iOS 16 asks user permission to copy and paste between apps

iOS 16 asks user permission to copy and paste between apps

Apple introduced a new banner in iOS 14 in 2020 to notify users when an app is copying from the clipboard. So, if an app is reading your clipboard without your permission, you'll know about it right away. After the release of iOS 16, the system will now ask the user's permission before allowing users to copy and paste data between apps.

iOS 16 asks for your permission before allowing you to paste anything from your clipboard. It will not have access to your clipboard if you deny it. As the name implies, Apple's goal with this new feature is to keep apps from reading private data from a user's clipboard.

Previously, if you received an alert that a particular app was reading your clipboard, your only option was to stop using that app

There are still some issues with clipboard updates when discussing a beta feature, of course. For example, some apps don't even ask for permission to read the user's clipboard, and there is still no menu in the privacy settings to make it easy to choose which apps can and cannot do so.

TikTok and other apps were slammed after users discovered that they were able to read what had been copied from other apps without the user's knowledge. Affected apps have been updated to stop accessing the user's clipboard in this way.

On the Apple Developer website, developers can download the first beta version of iOS 16. Next month, a public beta version will be released, and the final version is expected to be released in the fall.
