Before calling it quits, Shakira and Gerard Piqué's romance lasted for more than a decade

During the filming of her music video for "Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)," the "Hips Don't Lie" singer and soccer player and mother of Milan, 9, and Sasha, 7, first met. In 2011, they made their relationship public for the first time.

Shakira, 45, and Gerard, 45, have appeared in public at celebrity events on a few occasions, sometimes with their sons in tow. Instagram was a popular platform for the former couple to share photos of their family. A couple's selfie was the singer's way of saying "I love you" to her boyfriend on Valentine's Day.

When Shakira and Gerard announced their split in a joint statement to E! News on June 4, they stated that they were no longer together "Sorry to say, but we must say our goodbyes. Our children's safety and well-being are of the utmost importance to us, so please respect their privacy. Your patience is much appreciated."

These two fell in love while filming Shakira's "Waka Waka," the World Cup's official song."I am going to win this World Cup so that we can see each other at the finals," Piqué told her later, according to his own admission. So he did, and that was the beginning of everything.
